QUICK DEV TIP #17 UE4 - MATERIALS QUICK CONNECT

I’ve been doing a lot more UE4 materials work recently I and came across this nice little tip.

Did you know that in the material editor you can quickly connect pins to the main result node?

If you would prefer to watch the video version, check it out here

This is really easy to do. If you right-click on a pin from any material node and look towards the top of the list you will see a bunch of options that mimic the result node pins. Click the one you want and a connection will be created.

The options you get will always be relevant to the result node. So as you can see below when we change the material domain to “User Interface” the options have changed along side it.

This technique isn’t massive useful when you have a relatively simple material or you are working right next to the result node. Where it really comes into its own is when you end up getting a complex material with a bunch of spaghetti and or when you are nowhere near the results node.

This is only a small thing but its the small things that build up to save you time in the long run!
